Throughout history, witches have been depicted in various ways in literature, film, and popular culture. Some famous witches are well-known for their real-life practices and beliefs, while others are fictional characters who have captured the imaginations of audiences around the world.
Salem Witches
In the late 17th century, a group of women in Salem, Massachusetts were accused of practicing witchcraft and causing harm to their neighbors. The Salem witch trials, which took place between 1692 and 1693. Resulted in the execution of 20 people, most of whom were women. The Salem witch trials become infamous as an example of mass hysteria and the persecution of marginalized groups.
