How to Grow Rosemary?

Rosemary is one of the miracles of nature. To grow rosemary is one of the smartest things in the world. Almost every green witch uses the benefits of rosemary. Also, it is a great herb playing role in rituals and daily practices. In ancient green witchcraft routines, the rosemary took part in clearance and purification specifically. Rosemary is called Rosmarinus Officinalis in Latin which means “dew of the sea”. Shakespeare mentioned the rosemary like that;

“ There is rosemary, that’s for remembrance, pay you love, remember.”

– Shakespeare

Once established, rosemary likes to stay on the sunny side.

  1. Re-pot as the plant gets larger and the roots fill the container and prune rosemary frequently.
  2. You can burn as incense to remove negative vibes. Use in pillow sachets to aid in sleep, and stop nightmares.
  3. Rosemary tea helps you relax, detox and help with insomnia.
  4. Magical uses of rosemary are protection, purification, psychic detox, healing!

1. How to Choose Rosemary Soil?

You can find suitable soil for the rosemary plant, which likes sandy and peat-rich soils, from the florists. The ideal planting seasons for propagating rosemary from seed or cuttings are spring, summer, and autumn.

Rosemary can quickly grow, and develop, except in winter and extremely cold weather. It can quickly adapt to the home environment. Plant it in the correct soil and continue to care for rosemary properly.

Now that we have chosen the soil and combined the rosemary with the soil, it is time to learn what kind of environment is ideal for it.

2. Rosemary Water Frequency & Temperature

The rosemary plant does not like very cold weather. For rosemary winter is not a good season. However, it should not be kept at temperatures higher than 20-25 degrees in summer. It is important to keep the rosemary, which likes to receive sunlight, in an environment with plenty of light for at least 6 hours during the day.

Grow Rosemary Properly

For growing rosemary properly, you can turn the pot of the plant once every 2 days so that all parts of it receive an equal amount of sunlight. In winter, you can try to keep it under the fluorescent lamp as it may need extra lighting.

3. To Grow Rosemary in A Pot

When it comes to humidity, rosemary, which is one of the plants that likes to be moist, may need a lot of watering, especially if it is a small plant or during the summer months. If you have a baby rosemary that you started growing in a small pot, you can spray the rosemary leaf with the water. If the plant in your home has grown into an adult and large rosemary plant, you may not water its leaves, but you should never neglect to water it before the soil is entirely dry.

Repotting of rosemary is done once a year in the first years and, if possible, in April. However, if your rosemary plant is 5 years old, you should change the pot every 3-4 years, not every year. If you wish, you can take the top layer of soil in the pot with your rosemary plant and add new soil to it. It will suffice.

You should use a pot with drainage, holes in the bottom, and made up of clay, if possible, so that the roots can breathe and the excess water does not easily come out and rot the roots in case you overwater. Don’t forget to put a tray under the pot where excess water can flow.
Since the rosemary plant does not like large pots, it will be sufficient to switch it to a size 1 pot only when changing it.

4. How to Propagate Rosemary?

As you can do in the first planting process, you can reproduce with rosemary seeds, or you can apply the rosemary cutting method which is easier.

To apply the cuttings propagation method, carefully take the rosemary branches from the root and soak these cuttings in water. It takes 15-20 days for rooting rosemary cuttings in water. Continue the rosemary care for this new rosemary by planting the branches that have started to root in the pot filled with suitable soil and following all the steps we have explained above. When all the conditions are right, the new baby rosemary in pots will grow beautifully.
